Cork's most famous fishmonger invited to visit Queen
The trader in the English Market in Cork City has been asked to attend a reception with the Queen at the end of the month. The invite comes less than three years after a visit to Ireland during which the Queen and Prince Philip dropped into the market and met Mr O’Connell.
After the visit, British ambassador Julian King asked Mr O’Connell to sign a picture which captured him sharing a joke with the Queen. He had picked up a particularly ugly monkfish and told her that it is nicknamed “the mother-in-law fish”, to which she threw her head back and laughed.
