Victim’s ‘horror’ as she recalls rape

A woman who recalled yesterday her rape at the age of 12 at a funfair said it was “horrendous” to have to bring up the details of the sex attack which she had buried deep in her memory for over 20 years.

The victim was giving evidence in the sentencing hearing at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork for the 51-year-old man who was found guilty of rape last November.

The complainant was sent to a caravan for a message on the particular morning but the defendant’s wife and child were not present and he was alone.
