It wouldn’t do for hundreds of thousands of visitors to have to navigate through bunkers on a road instead of an adjoining golf course — which is why a road repair project is being fast-tracked ahead of the Irish Open.

For many years, Cork county councillors have complained about the state of the Fota Road, which runs adjacent to the golf course which will host the major golfing tournament in June.

Ironically, the last time any significant work was done on the road was 12 years ago — again just before the golf club at Fota got to host its first Irish Open.
