The State is set to appeal a 15-year prison sentence imposed on a violent rapist who tied up and raped a mother repeatedly after abducting her from a city street.

Michael Murray, 42, lured the woman, who was walking her 4-year-old son from school, into an apartment by telling her that an elderly woman was dying inside and needed help.

He tied her up and beat her before taking her son and abandoning him in a public square at about 11pm. He returned to the flat and raped the victim.
