A row over a move in a chess game is believed to have been a factor in the latest in a series of violent deaths across Ireland since the start of the new year.

An Italian national was being held overnight by gardaí in relation to the death of the owner of a house in Castleknock in the early hours of yesterday.

Gardaí received a 999 call to the large detached house at Beech Park Avenue in the up-market northside suburb at around 1.50am.
