€220k boardwalk destroyed in East Cork

Youghal’s Claycastle boardwalk, which cost €220,000 to construct in 2012, was torn apart by the storm-force elements. Following serious, but repairable damage before the weekend, subsequent buffeting by 100km/h winds and mountainous waves have dismantled much of the 400-metre structure.

Most of the damage was inflicted overnight on Sunday, with locals shocked to see huge chunks of the heavy, teak structure being flung half a mile upriver at Green Park yesterday morning.
