PJ Hegarty named as preferred tenderer for €30m Cork prison

Cork construction company PJ Hegarty has been announced as the preferred bidder for the development of the €30-plus new Cork Prison.

The project is expected to create between 750 and 1,000 jobs among sub-contractors as well as significant financial spin-offs for suppliers and local businesses.

The contract is due to be signed in the coming days and construction is expected to start early next month.
