Man charged with possession of knife

A man was arrested yesterday and charged with producing a small knife to stab another man a number of times in the neck.

Graham O’Mahony, 29, of 66 Hazel Rd, Togher, Cork, was remanded in custody at Cork District Court to a special remand sitting of the court on Dec 27.

Detective Garda James Nagle said it was alleged O’Mahony got into an altercation with another man and stabbed him a number of times outside Boyle Sports, Pearse Square, Cork, on Dec 13.

Diarmuid Kelleher, solicitor, said Mr O’Mahony was only charged with possession of a weapon and not with assault.

The DPP directed it was a suitable case to be dealt with at Cork District Court. Judge Leo Malone agreed and said he would accept jurisdiction,

Det Garda Nagle said there were only minor injuries arising out of the alleged incident.

He also charged Mr O’Mahony with causing €100 damage to a house at Leesdale, Model Farm Rd. Garda Kevin McCarthy charged him with a burglary at Hillside Grove, Glasheen Rd, on Dec 15.
