Up to 30,000 people have expressed an interest in joining An Garda Síochána as the justice minister announced that 300 recruits are to be hired.

30,000 people express interest in joining gardaí

The trainee gardaí are expected to begin training in the middle of next year — five years after the last recruits entered the Garda College in Templemore. Recruitment was halted in 2007 because of the public-sector recruitment moratorium.

The recruitment campaign kicked off yesterday morning and already, up to 1,000 people have expressed an interest in these positions.
