A proposal which called on the members of a golf club to donate €1m of a cash windfall to more than 20 local charities has failed.

At its AGM on Monday, Members of Douglas Golf Club in Cork were expected to consider motions from two members that they donate to 23 charities €1m of a €6m fund which has been sitting in its bank account for the past seven years.

According to the club’s accounts, it received a €6m non-refundable deposit from developer Castlelands Construction as part of a proposed land swap that never took place.
