Man sentenced to six years for assaulting girlfriend

A man who assaulted his girlfriend and left her hospitalised for four months with serious brain injuries has been sentenced to six years in prison, with the final 12 months suspended.

Paul McMenamy, aged 28, failed to get medical attention for his victim for 12 hours after the incident, the court heard.

McMenamy, of Dono-more Green, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to care worker Nicola Murray at Reuben Walk, Rialto, on Feb 5, 2012.
