Man in hospital after armed siege
Gardaí said the man suffered a head injury after a stand-off involving a man with a gun in a car at Farrenboley Park, Windy Arbour, Dundrum.
The siege lasted for almost two hours and was brought to an end at 5.20pm.
Gardaí said the injured man was taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s Hospital.
A garda source has described the incident as a personal tragedy.
The man, who is understood to have been sitting in a car when gardaí arrived at the scene, is in a serious condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.
Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
It is understood officers had arrived on the scene at around the time a gunshot was heard.
Despite initial reports, there were no shots fired at gardaí or anyone else during the incident.
It is understood the man involved has a legally held weapon and is known to be a hunter.
While the incident was ongoing, gardaí had asked media organisations not to make public any information about what was happening.
