Work to relieve regular flooding on a section of the main Cork-Killarney road will not be done for at least three years, it has emerged.

The most recent flooding at Garries, Glenflesk, Co Kerry, was on Oct 25, resulting in the closure of one lane of the busy N22.

Local people say the road in the area has been subject to flooding for as long as they can remember, but it has been deemed unsuitable for minor flood mitigation because of the scale of the remedial work required.
