Choirs set to branch out into singing tree at Waterford's Winterval festival
The singing tree is organised by Winterval in Waterford city, the Christmas festival which drew 250,000 visitors into the south-east last year during its inaugural running and hopes to double that figure this time around.
The festival runs from Nov 29 until Dec 31 and its singing tree will be 36-feet tall with five tiers.
A call is going out to members of choirs who are invited to take a timeslot on the timetable and sing carols on each tier.
Members of the Winterval festival committee have taken inspiration from its closest rival in Zurich, Switzerland, for the tree, and now want choirs made up of 15 members each to make it happen.
Winterval operations manager Sinead O’Neill Hartery said this is “a wonderful opportunity” for choirs.
“We are recruiting choirs from all over the country to join this fantastic showcase of festive music. If you are a member of a choir and your choir would like take part please feel free to get in touch with Jack Stephenson on 087-2701093 or email us at info@winterval.ie.”
The festival will host events such as a 3D Lightshow, a Viking Christmas, a Polish Christmas, and an animal farm.
