Austerity protest group to contest seats in local elections

A new group called the Anti Austerity Alliance has announced plans to contest up to 40 local authority seats across the country next May, targeting three in Cork City.

The group is made up of campaigners who fought the household charge and property tax in recent years.

Some are members of political parties but others, including those lined up to contest local authority seats, are not affiliated to any party.
