It holds the record as having the highest GAA pitch in Ireland and can now add hosting the biggest hurling match in history to its credits.

The tiny village of Meelin, on the Cork/Limerick border, was celebrating yesterday after Guinness Book of Records confirmed that a marathon match which took place on Aug 25 last was going to be added to its official records.

On that day a total of 916 people togged out to play matches which lasted six hours. The previous record of 250 was set by a club in London.
