Syrian secures refugee status after six years

A Syrian national who feared persecution in his country by the Assad regime years before the outbreak of civil war there has finally secured refugee status — after more than six years.

The man’s legal representatives, Dublin-based firm KOD Lyons, said the case illustrated how “the entire asylum system is in need of a radical overhaul”.

The firm issued a statement on the case and the number of initial refusals regarding his application which were then each overturned.
