A Nigerian-born businessman toasted success with pints of Beamish last night after acquiring a former navy ship for the knockdown price of €320,000.

Cyprian Imobhio, chief executive and managing director of Uniglobe Group, outbid two other businessmen at a public auction in Carrigaline, Co Cork, yesterday for the LÉ Emer.

Auctioneer Dominic Daly said he was “a little disappointed” the ship went for so little in the end, “especially as the initial interest had been very positive”.
