Driver accused of causing death of teenage boy

A Dublin man is to stand trial accused of careless driving causing the death of a 14-year-old boy during a suspected hit-and-run incident almost two years ago.

Conor Hickey, St Attracta Rd, Cabra, was hit by a vehicle at the junction of St Eithne Rd and Fassaugh Rd on Dec 2, 2011.

The second-year pupil had been on his way to meet a friend when he was struck and died in hospital the following day.

The accused, Ruadhan Tracey, had to be restrained by prison officers and was forcibly removed from a courtroom after he was served with a book of evidence yesterday.

Mr Tracey, 31, of no fixed abode, had replied “not guilty” when he was charged earlier with careless driving causing the schoolboy’s death.
