Garda appeal for witnesses after man’s death
The man was found unconscious on St Patrick’s Quay on Thursday night and died in hospital hours later. Gardaí say they are treating his death as suspicious.
The victim, who originally comes from Carpenterstown in Dublin, was found collapsed with head and facial injuries shortly after 10pm.
The man underwent emergency surgery at Cork University Hospital for his head injuries but died just a few hours later.
Margot Bolster, the assistant State pathologist carried out an autopsy but gardaí will not release details for operational reasons.
Gardaí are looking for anyone who may have seen an altercation between St Patrick’s Bridge and the end of St Patrick’s Quay on Thursday night to contact them at Mayfield Garda Station on 021-4558510.
CCTV footage in the area is also being examined by detectives, and they have spoken to several witnesses who were in the area at the time.
They are also awaiting toxicology reports on the man’s body.
