Pope Francis has urged doctors to refuse to perform abortions and described them as symptomatic of the world’s “throw-away culture” less than 24 hours after he accused the Church of becoming obsessed with abortion.

On Thursday, the Pope sent the Catholic world into a tailspin by saying the Church had become unduly preoccupied with condemning abortion, gay marriage, and contraception.

However, Francis issued the latest anti-abortion message yesterday, citing Vatican teaching on the need to defend the unborn during an audience with Catholic gynaecologists.
