Pope Francis’s first major interview has been described as containing “wonderful authenticity” but as “very challenging” by the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin.

Archbishop Martin said the extensive interview granted to a Jesuit magazine was saying “let’s move in a direction” but also echoed the thoughts of his predecessor Pope Benedict, who had warned the Church can’t just be about dogma and rule.

Archbishop Martin said Pope Francis, who described himself as a “sinner” had “opened a path for change”.
