Student leaders say the true measure of any improvements in the grants system will be figures on how many applications have been decided.

Students wait to see on ‘reformed’ Susi

Student Universal Support Ireland (Susi) said yesterday the processing of grant applications was on target, as all 52,000-plus people who lodged claims by August 5 had their initial assessment completed.

However, despite being open for business for the coming college year since mid-May, the organisation refuses to say how many students have got a final decision to date.
