Art lovers cash in on Anglo fall as auction raises €281k

There was strong interest in the sale of the Anglo Irish Bank art collection with work by some artists going for considerably more than pre-auction estimates.

However, with the wind-up of the bank estimated to have cost the taxpayer €25bn, the €281,000 raised last night was but a drop in the ocean.

Stephen McKenna’s art went for well over its guide price with Small Gate at Terni making €8,000, despite an estimated sale price of €2,000-€4,000.
