Toddler dies after falling from third-floor apartment window
The toddler lost her life after the incident at 9.30am yesterday in the gated Tolka Valley apartment complex on Finglas Rd, Dublin.
She was rushed to the Mater Hospital after fall. However, she was pronounced dead at 10.30am.
Gardaí in Finglas were last night examining the circumstances of the fall and were speaking with the child’s distraught relatives.
Last night, local Labour councillor John Redmond said the tragedy has left the community surrounding the apartment complex — based near the River Tolka and the popular Botanic Gardens site — in shock.
“It’s tragic, just tragic that such a thing like that could have happened,” said Mr Redmond. “My sympathies go to the family involved.
“I have a granddaughter myself, who is just one year old, and I can only imagine what the family are going through”
The incident comes just four months after the death of toddler Vakaris Martinaitis, who died in Midleton, Co Cork, days before his second birthday.
Vakaris’s death after falling from an upstairs window in the family home on May 6 is currently the subject of a delayed HSE investigation into the reaction of medical teams to the incident.
At 2.02pm, moments after the fall, a HSE dispatcher sent an ambulance travelling from Cork University Hospital to its base in Youghal, East Cork, to the scene of the accident.
However, two minutes later, the same dispatcher called off the vehicle.
As it returned to base, this ambulance is believed to have passed Vakaris as he was being rushed to hospital in a neighbour’s car under garda escort.
A report into the issue was initially due to be published in late July, but will now not be made available until “mid autumn”.
