City traders and fans encouraged to show rebel spirit

Traders in Cork city have been urged to paint the town red for the county’s senior hurling team ahead of their All Ireland final clash against Clare next week.

And rebel fans have also been encouraged to don the “blood and bandage” this Friday night for a flashmob in the city centre.

A TV crew will be in Cork recording footage for a travel show to be screened on TG4 in Oct.

Its presenter Áine Goggins has been set a task to organise a flashmob during her visit to Leeside.

She is hoping to film a flashmob of colourful rebel hurling fans at the junction of Grand Parade and South Mall around 6pm.

A spokesperson for Tobar Productions encourage people to wear their red and white and be prepared to sink “De Banks” for the cameras.

Meanwhile, the Cork Business Association has offered a prize for the business which puts on the best All Ireland display before the Croke Park clash on Sep 8.

CBA chief executive Donal Healy encouraged traders and business owners to show their true colours.

“By the sheer skill and commitment of our teams, they continue to bring a sense of pride and a welcome lift to the city and county this summer,” he said.

Joan Lucey of Vibes and Scribes has sponsored the €200 voucher for the best-dressed window display to encourage shops, restaurants, pubs and hotels to get behind the team.

City Hall is also expected to configure its lighting system to display red and white over the coming nights.
