Temporary tunnel closure postponed

A planned three-week closure of the Jack Lynch Tunnel has been postponed indefinitely due to technical issues.

It had been proposed to close the tunnel nightly from Sept 2 until Sept 23 for upgrading works, including the installation of electronic safety barriers which are standard in all modern tunnels.

However, a spokesman for Cork City Council — which manages the tunnel — said the works would not now proceed next week.
