A teenage boy appeared at Limerick District Court yesterday charged with the rape and sexual assault of girl aged seven.

The 18-year-old is charged with two counts of raping the girl and 13 counts of sexual assault on dates between Aug 2010 and 2011.

The rapes and 12 of the sexual assaults are alleged to have taken place at two different addresses in Co Limerick.

The teenager, who recently completed his Leaving Certificate is also charged with one count of sexual assaulting the girl at an address in Co Clare.

Garda Dympna Burke gave evidence of arresting him at his home in Co Tipperary on Tuesday night.

He was formally charged at Henry St Garda Station where he made no reply to the charges.

Solicitor Darach McCarthy told the court his client had recently completed state examinations and was not in receipt of social welfare.

Sgt Donal Cronin said there was no objection to bail on a number of conditions.

The 18-year-old, who lives in Co Tipperary, was granted bail on condition he resides at his home address.

He was also ordered not to have any contact with the injured party or her family, sign on three times a week at Henry Street Garda Station and surrender his passport.

Judge John O’Neill adjourned the case to Oct 9 to allow for preparation of the book of evidence.

The DPP has directed trial on indictment, the court heard.
