Embrace all things punk at Penneys
Low-cost clothing store Penneys has just launched its autumn collection.
Slouchy knitwear, tartan, boots, and bomber jackets are all nudging sarongs and kaftans off the shelves.
The store with a place in the hearts of thousands of price and fashion- conscious cailíní is offering a unique take on a number of catwalk trends.
And this season, it’s all about embracing a mix of masculine and feminine trends.
“Contrast” is the buzzword for Penneys this season — the contrast between chunky masculine gear and floaty babydoll dresses.
Shoppers are invited to unleash their inner punk with plaid shirts, studded leather-look tops, mesh stockings, tartan skirts, and biker jackets.
Stylists say flannel checked bomber jackets can be worn over-sized with slogan print T-shirts and ripped boyfriend jeans for those seeking a comfortable yet stylish look.
Penneys’ fashion gurus say knitwear will be “slouchy” this autumn in longer, comfortable shapes. As always, low prices are a huge factor in Penneys’ popularity: A red leopard-print jumper sells for just €14.
And for anyone reluctant to embrace the “highland grunge” look, elegant blouses will be on sale from €10.
A Penneys stylist says that punk and glam rock will be big this year — the retailer is selling a tartan dress which can be worn with opaque tights and chunky boots to give a razor-sharp edge to the look.
The sports luxe trend takes a darker edge for autumn, faux leather is a staple for this look, worn studded and quilted alongside delicate florals and embellishment. Joggers (€17) can be dressed up with stilettos and statement necklaces for an outfit can take you from day to night.
For a more romantic, classic style that’s functional and flattering, tailored jackets are available in a variety of colours.
Accessories, as always, are key across all trends for the season.
With necklaces, the message seems to be “big is beautiful”.
Embellished metals with oversized gemstones are layered together, while rings are bold and dramatic.
