Four people injured in head-on car collision

The two car head-on collision happened at about 8.30am on the main Ennis to Lahinch N85 road near at Kilnamona.

The same stretch of road has been dubbed “the ugly mile” following a large number of serious crashes in recent years including 10 accidents in the past four months alone.

The engine of one of the cars was ripped out and landed in a ditch. Emergency services personnel were stunned to see no engine in the vehicle.

Four people including a pregnant woman were hurt in the collision while a man and young child escaped unharmed. The expectant mother was a rear passenger in one of the cars and sustained facial injuries.

The occupants of the second car are understood to have been tourists.

All four casualties were taken to University Hospital Limerick.

Three were due to be released last night while the pregnant woman was expected to remain in hospital overnight.
