Funeral DVDs a spin-off of emigration

Funeral DVDs have been an unexpected growth industry arising from the surge in emigration — they are increasingly popular among overseas family and friends of the bereaved.

Many funerals are now streamed live online and, according to funeral directors, DVDs are being sent to Australia, New Zealand, and the US to emigrants who want to be part of a loved one’s funeral.

Cork funeral director John Keohane says they are increasingly hiring video producers to record funerals and Keohanes is considering starting its own in-house live streaming service.
