Brother of missing girl died from stab wound

Dean Fitzpatrick, the brother of missing Amy Fitzpatrick, died from a stab wound to the abdomen, Dublin District Coroner’s Court has heard.

Mr Fitzpatrick, 23, of St John’s Court, Artane, was fatally stabbed during a scuffle in an apartment at Northern Cross, Malahide Road, on May 25.

Amy Fitzpatrick, 15, went missing in Spain in 2008.

Yesterday his father Christopher Fitzpatrick told coroner Dr Brian Farrell that his sister had accompanied him to court.

“I’m very sorry to hear of your son’s death,” Dr Farrell told Mr Fitzpatrick. “I can’t make any comment at the moment, I’m very sorry.”

Dr Farrell told the family he was giving the results of the autopsy so that they may have a death certificate while the investigation is ongoing and adjourned the inquest for hearing on Jan 27.

Deputy State pathologist Dr Michael Curtis, who performed an autopsy at Dublin City Mortuary, said the cause of death was a stab wound to the abdomen.
