Political editor appointed

Michael O’Kane has been appointed political editor of the Irish Examiner.

The 46-year-old will bring over 20 years of media experience in print, digital, and broadcasting to his new role, leading the most informed and perceptive political coverage in Ireland.

Mr O’Kane cut his journalistic teeth on the Irish Press, which he joined in 1990 before working as a news correspondent for RTÉ in Belfast, London, and on the foreign desk.

During his London and Belfast postings, Mr O’Kane reported on the historic shift in Anglo-Irish relations culminating in the Good Friday Agreement.

He joined the Irish Daily Star in 2002 as news editor before progressing to deputy editor and then editor two years ago. Over the course of his career in print and broadcasting, he has developed an unrivalled understanding of news and current affairs. Mr O’Kane gained first class honours from the Scandinavian International Management Institute in Copenhagen on the leader programme for top newspaper editors in Europe, Asia, America, and Australia.
