Woman with 326 previous convictions refused bail
Bail was refused at Tralee District Court yesterday for Noreen O’Driscoll from the Model Village, Dripsey, Co. Cork.
She appeared before a sitting of Tralee District Court on a charge of stealing a handbag, containing €500, at Upper Gerald Griffin St, Limerick, on Wednesday of this week.
Garda Gary Carroll said the State was objecting to bail. He stated the accused was “a serial offender with an atrocious record”.
He said about one hundred of her previous convictions were of a similar nature to the charge before the court.
Garda Carroll said there were witnesses and cctv footage to assist gardaí in helping to bring about a likely conviction in the handbag theft.
He also stated further charges were likely.
However, solicitor Pat Enright, for Ms O’Driscoll, strongly challenged the garda’s assertions. He said it was accepted there were “numerous convictions” but questioned the actual number stated by the garda.
The solicitor stated there may have been “confusion” between his client and a person of the same name.
The judge refused her application and remanded her to a sitting of Limerick District Court on Wednesday next.
