Embattled residents in a Co Cork town are clinging to the hope a local authority can persuade the National Roads Authority to assign €3.4m to repair a crumbling main street and pathways.

According to Mayor of County Cork, Noel O’Connor, the council is making some progress but admitted it was unlikely any work would be carried out in Buttevant this year.

Hundreds of people recently blocked the street in frustration at the uneven surface of the footpaths and road which has resulted in several people sustaining injuries.
