Weird and wacky dominates highest grossing film list, but Cameron blockbusters nail the top spots

If you want a blockbuster movie, it seems you have to make it about wizards, superheroes or some kind of wonderful weirdo.

A glance down the 15 highest grossing US movies of all time throws up just one exception to the rule — Titanic.

The 1997 smash hit by James Cameron and starring Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet was the biggest grossing movie of all time until Mr Cameron went one better with Avatar.

The rest of the list contains hobbits, transformers, superheroes, wizards, pirates and a bit of Buzz Lightyear. There is no room for horror, drama or thrillers as action movies seem to be the big cash cows.
