Lifeboat crew praised for rescue of two teenagers after boat capsizes

Two teenagers on a trip to West Cork had a lucky escape when the boat they were in capsized in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The pair, who had neither oars nor lifejackets, got into difficulties in the small boat near the pier in Courtmacsherry around 4.25am, but were fortunately spotted by locals who raised the alarm.

The emergency services were alerted and the Coastguard immediately tasked the Courtmacsherry lifeboat and the Coastguard helicopter from Shannon.
