1c fry-up for 1 point win
Tony’s Bistro in Cork’s North Main St is offering full breakfasts for just one cent if the Rebel county’s teams triumph.
Ironically John O’Connor, the man who owns the restaurant, is Kerry-born, but readily admits he’s no problem offering Cork people a cheap breakfast if they beat his Kingdom compatriots next Sunday.
Many pundits believe that match could be very close, although Paddy Power make Kerry 4/6 favourites, while Cork are quoted at 13/8.
It’s 7/1 the draw for the match which kicks off in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney, at 2pm.
“If Cork beat Kerry by a point then we will honour the one cent breakfast deal the following day between 8am and noon,” John said.
That could cost him a lot of bacon, especially as the restaurant can seat 80 people.
The same deal will apply if Cork overcome Limerick in the Munster senior hurling final on Jul 14.
Limerick have home advantage as the match will be played in the Gaelic Grounds, but the bookies believe it will be a very close -run thing.
Paddy Power make Limerick slender favourites at 10/11 while Jimmy Barry Murphy’s men are quoted at 11/10.
They’ll pay out 9/1 on the draw.
“Yet again if Cork win by a point people can tuck into our ‘Full Monty’ for a cent. It consists of tea or coffee, toast and a fry,” John said.
“If the hurling and football teams were both to win by a point then it could cost me a considerable amount of money.
“Anyway, I’m doing it as a promotion and even though I think the odds of that happening are 100/1, I’m prepared to take the chance,” he added.
