Woman, 49, disqualified over triathlon boob
Mary Curran, from Westport in Mayo, was changing from her swimming clothes to her running gear when she briefly exposed her chest in the changing area for a period of 15 seconds. Men taking part in the event were also in semi-nude states at the same time.
Ms Curran told RTÉ’s Liveline show yesterday: “Unfortunately, I was disqualified because my chest was visible while I was changing from my swimming outfit in the freezing cold to my running gear...
“I did see some male torsos and chests and I did see some bare backsides but they were not disqualified. I just felt I had to air this because of the inequality of it and also it seems ridiculous to me in such an event.”
She said she felt that the decision was taken by one officious marshall.
Organisers said appendix K, point 33 of the Irish Triathlon Union competition rules states that nudity and indecent exposure results in disqualification.
However, Ms Curran said the decision was unfair and called for her finish time to be recorded in the results.
