Gardaí in talks with DPP over attack on woman

Gardaí were in talks with the DPP last night on whether charges should be brought against a man for a serious sexual assault on a woman with special needs.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was accosted by a man on a busy Dublin street last Wednesday afternoon, taken to a nearby flat and attacked.

A major operation was put in place in and around the Camden Street and South Richmond Street end of South Circular Road.

Detectives at Kevin St Garda Station identified a suspect over the weekend.

Early yesterday they moved to arrest the individual, a Pakistani national, who was living nearby.

He was taken to Kevin St and questioned under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, which allows for 24 hours’ detention.

The woman had parted from her mother at around 4pm last Wednesday and went for a jog in the area. When she arrived home around an hour later she told her parents what had happened.
