Police investigate Nigella ‘assault’

British police have begun investigating claims that millionaire art dealer Charles Saatchi assaulted his TV chef wife, Nigella Lawson, outside a London restaurant.

Photographs showing Mr Saatchi, 70, apparently grabbing his wife by the throat and also by the nose outside Scott’s restaurant in Mayfair appeared in the Sunday People newspaper.

Other photographs appeared to show Ms Lawson, 50, crying as she left.

The couple have been married for almost 10 years and regularly eat at Scott’s. which is popular with a number of celebrities.

Ms Lawson has achieved huge success as a celebrity chef through her programmes for the BBC and a string of cookbooks.

The altercation is said to have shocked other diners and passers-by.

It was reported yesterday that Ms Lawson left the London home she shares with her husband with a suitcase yesterday morning.
