220 Cork inmates ‘slopping out’ cells
The numbers of prisoners slopping out — the emptying of buckets of human waste by prisoners when their cells are unlocked in the morning time — has fallen by 36% in the past year to 535.
According to Alan Shatter, the justice minister, the number will fall 32% to 360 by September when the D Division in Mountjoy closes for refurbishment.
