Celebrity wedding planner’s company suffers dip in fortunes

Events company Weddings by Franc suffered an accumulated profits’ dip but life still appears to be a bed of roses for Peter Kelly after the success of his latest TV show.

Abridged accounts filed by personality Mr Kelly, who co-owns the Cork-based firm, show accumulated profits reduced by €204,559, from €563,369 to €358,810, in the 12 months to the end of Jun 30 last year.

Cash surplus also decreased, dropping from €146,111 to €18,717.

In fiscal 2011, the firm’s cash pile fell from €301,194 to €146,111.

The leading wedding designer and planner, known as Franc, enjoyed great success with his RTÉ show, Franc’s DIY Brides, attracting more than 380,000 viewers. The TV series also aired on BBC, Sky Living, and stations in Australia.

The drop in accumulated profits at Weddings by Franc Ltd continued the trend of fiscal 2011 when accumulated profits fell 17% from €684,654 to €563,369.

Franc’s business includes the House of Franc at its headquarters at Glanworth, Co Cork, which houses the House of Franc boutique shop and tea rooms.

The firm is owned on a 50-50 basis between Mr Kelly and his wife Eadaoin Morrish.

His profile has continued to increase in recent years, and he was employed as the creative designer for the visit of Queen Elizabeth to Cork City in 2011.

Franc was also creative designer for the opening event in City Hall for Cork European Capital of Culture 2005, and launched a wedding magazine, Franc Wedding Secrets, in 2009.

He has worked in the hospitality event for over 20 years.

Educated at Clonakilty Community College and Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), Mr Kelly started his career in the catering business having worked as a chef in Relais Chateau Hotels and international chains such as the Hyatt Regency in the West Indies.

He works with an in-house team for Irish events and a large international team that come together for his large-scale weddings and events.

Mr Kelly could not be reached for comment yesterday.
