Two men died in Donegal at the weekend, one in a car crash and the other, yesterday morning, in a house fire.

A car and a van were involved in the collision on the N56 at Brenter outside Dunkineely at approximately 10.45pm on Saturday.

The van driver, a 30-year-old male, died at the scene. His remains were taken to Letterkenny General Hospital where an autopsy was due to be carried out yesterday.

Another 21-year-old man, the driver of the car, was injured.

The accident happened on a notorious stretch of road between the villages of Inver and Dunkineely on the N56.

A Garda forensics team spent the day at the scene as a full investigation was carried out.

Meanwhile, an elderly man died in a house fire. He was found the Derryconnor area of Gortahork in the Donegal gaeltacht yesterday morning. The body of the 87-year-old, who lived alone, was discovered at 7am by a passerby.
