The charges relate to a teenage boy and there was an order made yesterday by Judge Patrick J Moran preventing the identification of the injured party in media coverage of the case.
Damien Jermyn, aged 29, of 4 Main St, Bantry, Co Cork, was arraigned on the opening day of the county sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to the counts against him.
The charges were of defilement of a child under the age of 17 contrary to Section 3 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2006.
The particulars of the charges were that he sex-ually assaulted the person under the age of 17 by penetration of his mouth with his (defendant’s) penis.
The dates for the offences were Jan 19, 2011, and on an unspecified date between Feb 1 and May 5, 2011.
Tom Creed, defending, said: “I would apply for an adjournment of sentencing until the Michaelmas sittings. He has various matters to put in train before that date.”
Donal McCarthy, prosecuting, said the accused was already on bail.
Judge Moran remanded Jermyn on the same conditions of bail to appear in court for sentencing on Nov 8.
Mr McCarthy said there was no State objection to the identification of the accused but there should be no identification of the injured party in coverage of the case. Judge Moran made an order on those terms.
