Killarney Golf Club staff to strike over redundancy plans

Workers at Killarney Golf Club are to go on strike from May 7 over company plans to make 21 of the 41 staff redundant. The employees overwhelming voted in favour of the action.

Siptu, which represents staff at the club, said management had initiated the redundancy plan even though a Labour Court hearing to try to minimise job losses is being heard on Apr 29.

Siptu organiser Denis Hynes said the workers believe management wants to impose unnecessary redundancies and massive wage cuts. He said workers were angry that the approach was being taken by a business of which Fáilte Ireland owns 77%.
