Campaigners in Waterford are optimistic that no services will be cut at Waterford Regional Hospital if the Higgins report into hospital reconfiguration is adopted by the Cabinet in two weeks time.

Campaigners believe the thousands of people who took to the streets in the city in recent months to save the hospital are responsible for the U-turn.

While the hospital would lose its regional status, it would be redesignated a University hospital if the report is adopted.
