Ex-councillor remanded on soliciting murder charge

Former Fianna Fáil councillor Gary O’Flynn was remanded in custody yesterday, charged with soliciting someone to murder three people, including a garda.

Mr O’Flynn, of Hayfield Drive, Castle Court, Whitechurch, Co Cork, replied not guilty when charged by Det Sgt Denis Lynch with three counts of soliciting a man to commit murder.

The charges state that, on a date between Oct 1, 2012, and Feb 15, 2013, inclusive, at Mallow Rd, Cork, Mr O’Flynn solicited a named person to murder Patrick Sweeney, and two similar charges whereby he allegedly solicited the same named person to murder George Ross and Det Garda Mary Skehan.
