Singer set to make €2m loss on mansion sale

Bankrupt singer Shane Filan’s Sligo mansion is now officially for sale at €990,000 — well below the €3m friends said it cost him to build.

It is also way under the €10m he was offered for it by a businessman at the height of the boom.

The former Westlifer’s house, set on five acres at Carraroe outside Sligo Town, where he lived with his wife Gillian and their three children, can be seen by the public for the first time.

Behind electronically controlled gates lie extensive landscaped grounds with a lake, patio and terraces, and an area developed for golf enthusiasts. Inside, an entrance hall leads to a magnificent kitchen, dining room, and living areas.

Auctioneer Ken Draper, of Sherry Fitzgerald Dra-per, said potential interest had already been shown in the property, built in 2004. “It’s just literally gone on the market and nobody has viewed it yet. We are marketing the property locally, nationally, and internationally.”

Shane and Gillian moved out of the house early in January as it was prepared for sale.

Shane, 33, and his family live in a Georgian-style house in Surrey, while he prepares to launch a solo career. He has been declared bankrupt in the UK. More than €18m is owed to creditors from the building company owned by Shane and his brother Finbarr.
