A former US Marine who spent three months in Ireland on an outdoor adventure course faces charges of kidnap and murder.

Bundoran locals said they find it difficult to believe Stephen Harkness, who travelled home to Verona, Kentucky, for Christmas, is accused of kidnap, torture, murder, and dismemberment just a few weeks after he left the Co Donegal resort.

Bar manager Laura Doherty said the 22-year-old was a regular at her Kicking Donkey pub in Bundoran town centre.
